0373  WHY MUST WE LOVE THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY?

Why the Immaculate Heart of Mary?  Why the Heart of Mary?  What is in this Heart of Mary that must encourage us to look to it and to love it?

The encouraging words of the Blessed Mother about her Immaculate Heart must open our understanding of the many questions racing in our minds, at the outset, regarding her Immaculate Heart…

‘’My heart is the heart of a mother, a real living heart of a mother who is real and living for her children…All men redeemed by my Son are also my children; they are my children in the fullest sense of the word…Even those who are far away, even the sinners, even the atheists, even those who reject God, those who fight against Him and hate Him; they are all my children.’’(Msg 21).  The Immaculate Heart of Mary is the heart of a Mother…

She delves on the purity of her heart…’’But mine is also an Immaculate Heart, that is to say, a motherly Heart that has never been tarnished by any shadow, by any sin, limpid as a spring, clear as light.’’ (Msg 21m).  Hers is a pure heart, untouched, untarnished by stain or sin.

The reason for her concern for all these erring, sinful children of hers…’’And I am Mother to them.  For many of them, I am the only Mother they have, the only person who is taking care of them, who truly loves them… I want to help them; I want to save them because I am their Mother.  Because of this, I suffer for them; I suffer for their sins; I suffer because they are so far from God; I suffer because they do wrong; I suffer because of all the harm they are doing to themselves.’’(Msg 21).  As a Mother to her children, she alone can care and be concerned and love them despite their shortcomings and transgressions.  She alone can help them. An unconditional Mother to ALL.

There is more… At Fatima, Portugal, in 1917, part of the secret message of the Blessed Mother to the little seers, Lucy, Francesco, and Jacinta, was a VISION OF HELL, THE END OF THE 1ST WORLD WAR, CONSECRATION OF RUSSIA TO HER IMMACULATE HEART… The last part being the  ASSASINATION OF A POPE… In subsequent apparitions, the Blessed Mother has signified a need to spread the DEVOTION TO HER IMMACULATE HEART…

In fact, asked about the two seers’ fate (Francesco and Jacinta), the Blessed Lady showed through rays of light that signified that these two seers were sure to go to heaven ahead of Lucia who was to remain longer on earth TO HELP SPREAD DEVOTION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART…

Let us look at the words of the Blessed Mother to lucia at the 2nd apparition,  on June 13, 1917… ‘’You must remain longer on earth.  `Jesus wishes to use you IN MAKING ME KNOWN AND LOVED.  HE WISHES TO SPREAD IN THE WORLD THE DEVOTION TO MY IMMACULATE  HEART.  I PROMISE SALVATION TO THOSE WHO EMBRACE THIS DEVOTION.  Their souls will be loved by God with a love of predilection, like flowers placed by me before His throne!’’ (‘’More About Fatima’’ 1950)

When Lucia showed sadness at being asked to stay alone longer to spread the devotion to her Immaculate Heart, the Blessed Mother assured her…’’No, my child.  I shall never abandon you.  My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God!’’

Detailing what went on at the 3rd Apparition, Lucia mentions the Blessed Mother’s concern for the souls the little seers have seen in their vision of Hell… The Blessed Mother expressed the wish of the Lord Jesus to spread the devotion to her Immaculate Heart in the world:  Devotion calls for Consecration (then) of Russia to her Immaculate Heart and Communion of Reparation on the first Saturday of the Month.  If her requests were followed, there would be peace in the world, the 1st World War would end… Otherwise, a 2nd worst world war would break (the Aurora Borealis was the sign given by the Mother for the coming of the 2nd World War)… The rest is history… the response to the Mother’s call has been lacking thus the occurrence of lWorld War II.

Now, in subsequent dates to the Apparitions of 1917, the appearances of the infant Jesus to Lucia are worth mentioning here, if only to show or manifest the importance of the Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary…. Let us look at what happened…

On December 10th 1925, the Blessed Virgin with the infant Jesus beside her, appeared to Lucia.  The Blessed Virgin showed her Heart surrounded with thorns and the infant Jesus said to Lucia, indicating the Heart of the Blessed Mother, ‘’Have pity on this loving Heart, a continual martyr to the ingratitude of men.’’  Here were the exact words of the Blessed Mother, adding them to those that Jesus said previously to Lucia…’’See, my child, this Heart of mine, surrounded with the thorns with which men transfix at every moment by their blasphemy and ingratitude.  Do you at least try to console me, and announce in my name that I PROMISE TO ASSIST AT THE HOUR OF DEATH WITH THE GRACES NECESSARY FOR SALVATION, ALL THOSE WHO, ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF FIVE CONSECUTIVE MONTHS, GO TO CONFESSION AND RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION, RECITE THE ROSARY, AND KEEP ME COMPANY FOR A QUARTER OF AN HOUR, WHILE MEDITATING ON THE MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY WITH THE INTENTION OF MAKING REPARATION..’’

In this alone, we see the great concern of the Blessed Mother for sinners, especially for those who blaspheme her and show ingratitude for what she, as Mother of the Redeemer, has done to effect Redemption of Humanity…

Appearing again to Lucy on February 15, 1926, Jesus encouraged the seer to spread the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and not to listen to her confessors regarding the difficulties she would encounter, and that all these would be overcome with the help of God.

There is a beautiful explanation coming from the writings offered by then Cardinal Joseph Ratizinger, now Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who was then Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith… in an attempt to interpret the Message of Fatima…

The inevitable question, “Why the Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary?’’  Why Mary’s Heart?

Quoted verbatim, ‘’In biblical language, the ‘’heart’’ indicates the centre of human life, the point where reason, will, temperament and sensitivity converge, where the person finds his unity and his interior orientation.  According to Matthew 5:8, the ‘’immaculate heart’’ is a heart, which, with God’s grace, has come to perfect interior unity and therefore ‘’sees God’’.  To be devoted to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, therefore, means to embrace this attitude of heart which makes the ‘’fiat – ‘’your will be done’’ – the defining centre of one’s whole life.’’

From here, we could conclude, that Jesus wanted the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the hope that Humanity, the Church would catch on and adopt this ‘’fiat’’ of Mary – ‘’I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done unto me according to your word..’’ — which simply means following the will of God without question and in silence.

Finally, the Lord knew, from the very start, that Humanity, the Church would encounter such difficulties which by themselves would be impossible to overcome without divine intervention, without the merciful graces of the Almighty Father.  As such, He created the Blessed Virgin Mary, and we have seen that since conception, she was created SINLESS, without inheriting original sin, pure, full of grace (Lk 1)… Not only to be the Mother of the Son of the Most High, to lend her humanity to this Son, but also to be the Mother of Humanity, the Church…. as planned…  Let us look at her message 333…

‘’My birth  is above all cause for your consolation.  The little creature, scarcely born,  whom you contemplate again today in her crib, is the object of a wondrous design by which she will become the MOTHER OF JESUS AND MOTHER OF ALL HUMANITY.  And this gives you great comfort in the painful times in which you are living.  Because you all have an Immaculate Mother who knows you, understands you, helps you and defends you.  Above all, in the bloody hours of the great suffering to which you are being called, how much comfort you find in the sure knowledge that your heavenly Mother is always at your side, to share in your suffering, to strengthen your trust, and to be a consolation to your many sorrows. ‘’ (Msg. 333)

Her assurance…’’In my HEART YOU WILL FIND THE SAFE REFUGE FROM THE MANY TROUBLES OF THE LIFE OF TODAY.’’ (Msg 28b)

The Blessed Virgin Mary has been created also specifically to be the Mother of Humanity.  As such, her Motherly Immaculate Heart has become our ONLY SAFE REFUGE, in these times of difficulties and sufferings in the world.  When she says for us to take refuge in her Immaculate Heart, she means for us to enter into Cenacles of Prayer and of Life in fraternity with priests and faithful.  It is here that we develop and enter into the right disposition towards Devotion to the Immaculate Heart through one of its manifestations – the CONSECRATION TO HER IMMACULATE HEART… (Msgs. 522, 561, 562)

‘’Extraordinary graces will descend upon my children who will take part in the CENACLES and all will have special signs of my love and my motherly presence.’’ (msg. 562)  It is also in the Cenacles that we are formed into the right disposition of total docility and littleness.  The Cenacle, the safest refuge of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is where we find protection and total security from the dangers that the Evil One brings on the world.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary is a gift to Humanity and the Church by God who created the Blessed Mother for His Son, Jesus and for all of us.
Reason why we have the CENACLES where we resort to another gift, the only recourse we have…’’This is then the hour to have recourse to the GREAT REMEDY that the Father offers you to resist the seductions of the Evil One and to oppose the real APOSTASY which is spreading more and more among my poor children.  CONSECRATE YOURSELVES TO MY IMMACULATE HEART…

And so I INVITE YOU TO RESPOND… TO LOVE THE IMMACULATE HEART OF  MARY, THE MOTHER OF JESUS, AND OUR MOTHER TOO… OUR SAFEST REFUGE IN THESE HARD TIMES OF THE GREAT PURIFICATION… mcnol.081118.
