The Precious Blood of Jesus

When we mention the the phrase ‘’PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS’’, what comes to mind immediately is the Passover Feast origins as described in the Holy Bible, in the Book of Exodus (Ex 12)… Let us go through this as taken from The Dictionary-Concordance to the New American Bible: (Taken verbatim so as not to miss or misquote any thought/s there from: ‘’This is one of the principal feasts in the Israelite religious calendar. The legislation governing has been inserted in the story about the Exodus, at the point of the tenth plague of Egypt, the slaying of the first-born (Ex 12).

The foundations for the feast are the means God revealed to the Israelites to escape the plague. And so, it should be continued as a rite to perpetuate the memory of God’s saving power and its enduring efficacy. The name of the feast, Pesah, is held to be derived from the verb, Pasah, to pass over or spare, for on that night God spared the Israelite homes when He struck the Egyptians. Exodus 12:23 states that the plague was brought about by the Destroyer or destroying angel, mashut, the messenger to whom was committed the work of God’s vengeance.’’ The original ritual, as described in the Holy Bible is further quoted from Exodus 12:3-13..: ‘’Tell the whole community of Israel (The Lord to Moses and Aaron): on the tenth of this month every one of your families must prepare for itself a lamb, one apiece for each household. If a family is too small for a whole lamb, it shall join the nearest household in procuring one and shall share in the lamb in proportion to the number of persons who partake of it. The lamb must be a year-old male and without blemish. You may take it from either the sheep or the goats. You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, and then, with the whole assembly of Israel present, it shall be slaughtered during the evening twilight. They shall take some of its blood and apply it to the two door posts and the lintel of every house in which they partake of the lamb. That same night they shall eat its roasted flesh with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. It shall not be eaten raw or boiled, but roasted whole, with its head and shanks and inner organs. None of it must be kept beyond the next morning; whatever is left in the morning shall be burned up. ‘’This is how you are to eat it: with your loins girt, sandals on your feet and your staff in hand, you shall eat it like those who are in flight. It is the PASSOVER OF THE LORD. For on this same night I will go through Egypt, striking down every first-born of the land, both man and beast, and executing judgment on all the gods of Egypt – I THE LORD! But the blood will mark the houses where you are. Seeing the blood I will Pass over you; thus, when I strike the land of Egypt, no destructive blow will come upon you.’’

Some theologians have used this Passover excerpt from Exodus 12 as prefiguring the Passion and Death and Resurrection of Jesus in the New Testament: the New Covenant, the New Pasch, sees Jesus Christ as the Lamb, whose blood would save, redeem the whole world, even for generations to come. If the blood of the sacrificed lamb in Exodus saved the Israelites from the death brought by the avenging angel, here, on the cross, with His blood, His ignominious death, Jesus, the Christ redeemed all, reconciled us to His Father, that with repentance (confession), the kingdom of heaven would be near at hand (His call in Galilee); gained power over ‘’death’’ – death from sin… The resulting Passover of Jesus is celebrated on Sundays in the Eucharistic Celebration of the Mass…

The Blessed Mother of Jesus has words for the precious blood of her Son, Jesus… ‘’My maternal task is also that of offering reparation for the great evil which, still today, is being committed in the world. I unite myself with each Holy Mass which is celebrated, to offer to the Heavenly Father the PRECIOUS BLOOD of His Son, Jesus, who is still immolating and sacrificing Himself for you on every altar of the earth. IT IS ONLY HIS DIVINE BLOOD, SHED FOR YOU, THAT CAN WASH AWAY ALL THE EVIL, THE SIN, THE HATRED, THE IMPURITY, THE INIQUITY THAT COVERS THE WORLD.

Thus in a spirit of maternal reparation, I unite to the blood of Christ all the sufferings which I gather, each day, along your pathway.’’ (Msg. 396f) Indeed, at Mass, when we partake of the Body and Blood of Jesus, the Lamb, as a community, we get our strength and the inspiration, the shield necessary to live securely in a world beset with all the lures and evils that darkness could conjure for the Blessed Mother’s children. When we wash ourselves in the ‘’precious blood’’ of Jesus, we welcome Him into our hearts, soaking ourselves with the sacrifices He has gone through for us…’’To those of my children who are sinners, seduced by evil, by hatred and violence, I repeat with the heartfelt lament of the Mother: ‘Return to God, who awaits you with the love of a Father; let yourselves be washed in the precious blood and purified by the infinite mercy of my Son Jesus.’’ (Msg. 261r) Literally, we can say that the price of the Redemption of humanity has been the PRECIOUS BLOOD of the Lord Jesus Christ… The words of the Blessed Mother in her prayer proves this…’’If you do what I am asking of you today, you put in my hands a powerful force of intercession and of reparation. And thus I am able to present myself before the throne of the Lord, great and terrible, just and holy, to implore for you His divine mercy: ‘Pardon, O Lord, the iniquity of Your people, WHOM YOU HAVE ACQUIRED AT THE PRICE OF YOUR MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD.’’’ (Msg. 374j)

Further on, the Blessed Mother confirms the sacrifice of the Lamb in the Paschal Mystery…’’The glorious reign of Christ, which will be established in your midst, with the second coming of Jesus in the world, is close at hand. This is His return in glory. This is His glorious return, to establish His reign in your midst and to bring all humanity, REDEEMED BY HIS MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD, back to the state of His new terrestrial paradise.’’ (Msg. 435) To be bathed in this MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD poured out for us by an obedient Son, who chose to be a ‘’slave’’, though a divine person, subjected to pain, humbled and spat upon, scourged, just so the plan of His Father be fulfilled in Him…even unto death, death on a cross meant for convicted criminals… (ref. Phil 2:2-11)… What a privilege this would be…’’During the three hours of excruciating agony, I remain beneath the cross with John and the holy women, and together WE ARE BATHED IN HIS PRECIOUS BLOOD.’’ (Msg. 542c) And so, in this very difficult life, we live on, comfortable in the thought that we are not alone and have never been alone in our difficulties, in our sufferings and pains as we carry our crosses with a smile on our faces, though wan… for Jesus has gone through all these FIRST and has shed HIS MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD as a price for our RECONCILIATION WITH THE FATHER… THAT WITH REPENTANCE, THE POWER OF DEATH LOSES ITS CLUTCHES ON US… Adopting some of the words of the Blessed Mother… LET US REMAIN BENEATH THE CROSS OF HER SON JESUS AND ALLOW OURSELVES TO BE BATHED IN HIS MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD… Amen…(.mcnol.062818)
