What does it mean to be like a child in our faith journey?

CHILDLIKENESS…

There is an apt quote from the Holy Bible, from Jesus Christ Himself, in Matthew 18:3, ‘’Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.’’

The question that inevitably follows is, ‘’Why, what is in a child that seems so pleasing to Jesus, to the Father?’’ There is such thing as a ‘’childlike faith’’ – a ‘’no-questions-asked’’ kind of faith which could be further summed up in one word – DOCILITY…

In Matthew 11:29, the words of our Lord Jesus: ‘’Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I AM MEEK AND HUMBLE OF HEART and you will find rest for yourselves.’’

Being childlike calls for us to be meek and humble of heart, a certain lowliness that spells out the right disposition that would be pleasing and preferential to our Father in heaven.

Further on in Matthew 11:25, Jesus’ words insinuates awesome dividends to being CHILDLIKE…’’I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although You have hidden these things (Mysteries of the Kingdom) from the wise and the learned, You have revealed them to the CHILDLIKE.’’

The childlike will be made to understand, revealed to them, the mysteries of the kingdom of God.

In our Catechism of the Catholic Church #459, we are taught…’’The Word became flesh to be our model of holiness.’’ Holines calls for the right disposition to be pleasing to God. And Jesus, in Matthew 16:24, gives His discipleship requirements… ‘’Whoever wishes to come after me must DENY HIMSELF, CARRY HIS CROSS, then FOLLOW ME (TO CALVARY).’’ Clearly, Jesus, our Lord, gives us the discipleship requirements we need in order for us to be able to follow Him, to come after Him…

In messages 347 and 260, the Blessed Mother of our Lord gives an explanation to the discipleship requirements of Jesus, tasked as she had been by the Blessed Trinity to prepare humanity and the entire Church for the 2nd coming of Jesus in glory…

On the first discipleship requirement of Jesus: Deny (Die to) yourself… The Blessed Mother explains to us that we must muster our inner passions, our inner impulses, pride, anger, etc. towards TOTAL DOCILITY which she calls INTERIOR PENANCE…

The 2nd discipleship requirement of the Lord: Carry your cross… In the message of the Blessed Mother, she calls this SILENT PENANCE, which calls for our silent acceptance of whatever roles in life we have at the moment, be they difficult, painful, or in suffering… for such is the will of the Father for us…but in doing so, we must be in constant commune with God. Jesus, in Fatima, Portugal, commanded Lucia, one of the three seers, to spread devotion to the Immaculate Heart of His Mother so that, as such, humanity might catch on and also have the ‘’fiat’’ of this Immaculate Heart of Mary, her ‘’yes’’ to the great will of the Father.

The 3rd discipleship requirement of Jesus: Then follow me (to Calvary)… the Blessed Mother calls this exterior penance which calls for mortification from the lures and prompts of the world by containing our senses, the eyes, the touch, the smell, the tongue, the ears and then facing our own ‘’calvaries’’ with courage for there will she be comforting and consoling us, as we walk with our bloodied feet towards our own sufferings…

This calls for TOTAL CHILDLIKENESS, an unconditional giving of total trust to the Blessed Mother, to Jesus, to the Father… Life in this very difficult earth is not, never easy… but we must prove our worth to God that we indeed, deserve Heaven, His kingdom, the realization of our GREAT HOPE…

We must train ourselves to listen to the Mother iwith our CHILDLIKE HEARTS, so that the gospels of her Son would be accepted and listened to in the silence of our hearts. (msg. 84)

‘’You are the apple of my eye because you are simple, poor and humble. And thus, you love me with all the candor of your CHILDLIKE HEARTS.’’ (Msg 532)

‘’I have wanted them to have, as it were, the impression that they were good for nothing, to be considered of little value. I have given them the great gift of humility of heart, OF CHILDLIKENESS OF SPIRIT, so that they might feel themselves as mine alone and thus lose their dependence and reliance on anything else but me alone.’’ (Msg.29)

We cannot give our FULL TRUST and TOTALLY ABANDON our lives to our Mother unless we are in the right disposition to do so… She desires us to thus, be HUMBLE and ‘’lose our reliance and dependence on anything else’’ but the Blessed Mother… This is CHILDLIKENESS…

She wishes to carry us, to clothe us, to feed us…to care for and love us… but how can she do all these if we ourselves resist to her loving attention… ‘’You must be little because you are my children and therefore you should have the same life as I.’’ (msg. 109)

‘’You must be little to oppose Satan who is succeeding in leading people astray by pride and arrogance… You must be ever littler because your Mother wants you entirely for herself: she wants TO FEED YOU, TO CLOTHE YOU, TO CARRY YOU IN HER ARMS.’’ (109)

Let me end this with a story: There was a mother hen with ten chicks and they follow her clacking calls eagerly and promptly except for one chick who has always proven itself difficult. As they followd the Mother Hen towards one side of a road, the Mother watched and listened and finally gave the clacking signal to follow her across the national highway. And all the chicks did so, except for this ‘’difficult one’’ who tarried and busily scratched for more eats on the ground. Realizing that it was now alone by itself, the chick panics and runs for it alone, now quite far from the others who have faithfully followed their mother. The difficult one got run over by a speeding car.

Lesson here is simple. Be docile and totally dependent on the Mother who cares for us so much… As she has said, ‘’I want TO FEED YOU, TO CLOTHE YOU, TO CARRY YOU IN MY ARMS…’’ We must let her do this and the right disposition is IN TOTAL DOCILITY, IN CHILDLIKENESS….

Neither can we CONSECRATE OURSELVES TO HER IMMACULATE HEART UNLESS WE ARE IN THE RIGHT DISPOSITION TO DO SO… As in the first penance, Interior Penance, we must MUSTER OUR INNER PASSIONS,OUR PRIDE TOWARDS TOTAL DOCILITY…. Jesus tells us the same thing in His discipleship requirement…’’DENY YOURSELF’’… BE CHILDLIKE, FOR UNLESS WE CHANGE AND BECOME LIKE CHILDREN WE CAN NEVER ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN….. .mcnol.052918
