What prayers do you say with your children?

Prayer life is very important and I wish to develop in my children a strong habit of prayer ( talking to God and the Blessed Mother and knowing that they are always present and ready to listen).

My children are very young and do not have the ability to memorize prayers or comprehend what they mean yet. I have made up prayers and found some simple prayers that they can easily remember and pray with me like:

Morning/Evening Prayer:

Dear Lord, Thank you for this day.  Thank you for our blessings. Bless our family and friends. Keep us all safe today/tonight. Amen.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pray for Us.

Meals:

Thank you for the world so sweet.  Thank you for the food we eat. Thank you for the birds that sing.  Thank you God for everything. – Edith Rutter Leatham

Bedtime:

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray thee Lord my soul to keep. Thy love stay with me all the night and wake me with the morning light. – Anonymous

I have also found that singing the prayers are received by them so enthusiastically.

  1. When I am with my children, we usually talk about the goodness and how awesome God is! For me this is already a form of prayer. This is indirectly teaching them to count their blessings and be grateful for all the things that God has given us. My children are already grown ups and I thank the Lord that they’ have the awareness of the presence of God in their lives. As a family we have always been praying to Jesus through Mary, which have been instilled to them since they were young. Many blessings have been given to our family through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother! Thank you Lord for the gift of prayer!
